This current event is about Gas Station in White Plains now a HFS (Hydrogen Fuel Station). General Motors are behind this project. Hydrogen Fuel lets us (people of the US) use less fossil fuels. This HFS is one of three Stations in the US. So the people of the country are progressing but still too slow. Only Hydrogen Fuel powered cars are able to go to that station like the Cheverlet Equinox. Obviouslly HFS powered cars give no pollution at all which helps the enviornment a lot. Also it is a good thing that it is in the Tri-State area because there a lot of cars in New York City for example, and that means a lot of pollution. With more people switching to HFS powered cars, the less pollution there is in New York. General Motors are eager to continue with this project.

This current event is interesting to me because I want to be an astonut so I am very interesting in the news. Tomorrow there will be a mission in which the Space Shuttle Endeavour will go for sixteen days to the International Space Station. The shuttle will roar off at 2:28 AM on Tuesday. The mission will include five spacewalks to install the first part of Kibo and assemble the pieces of Dextre. This means a lot to me because it hs been a long since there was a mission so I am really looking forward for this mission and how it is going to progress.

As everyone knows, the election has been heating up this year. It has been espaecially heated on the Democratic side of the rivals: Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Well now they are being put to the test especially Obama. Obama's followers in his campaign are what you can call rookies because they are new young people just like Obama who is young. Clinton's followers are what you can call veterans and are experienced in political competitions. Clinton also has help from former president and husband, president Bill Clinton. She has an edge in this election although Pbama is still not tapping out. It is actually really close.

Super Sunday Holiday-Robert Arthur Miller
Superbowl sunday
will eventually one day
become a holiday,
we already celebrate
the game on it's date
in so many different ways.
We are already habitiuals
when it comes to our ritiuals
while enjoying the game,
cracking open our brews
to see the other team lose
every year we do the same.
While eating our chips
with all kinds of dips
and many other types of snacks,
we see rewinded clips
broken hips
and great quaterback sacks.
Superbowl sunday
has always been a fun day
where we tune everyone else out,
just take it from me
eventually we'll see
it become a holiday, no doubt.

RESPONSE: This poem show how important football and especially the Super Bowl is in the America. This poem explains how teh Super Bowl should be recognized as a holiday because it is the most watched television program of the year. Even people that don't know the game of football still watch it. This shows how powerful and important football is in America.

We Are Football Players-Leonel Martinez
People don't play football because its fun. Ask any football player, most of them fear it, but they couldn't imagine their life without it. It's part of them, the love/hate relationship. It's what they live for. They live for the practices, cheers, long bus rides, championships, night games, countless pairs of cleats and Under Armour, water, Gatorade, and coaches they hate but appreciate. They live for the way it feels when they beat the other team, and knowing those extra sprints and laps they ran in practice were worth it. They live for the way they become a family with their team, they live for the countless songs they sing in their head while training all those painful hours. They live for the sound of their heart pulse, pounding frantically as they do sprints and updowns. They live for competition, they live for teammates, the practices, the memories, the pain, blood, and sweat. It's who they are. It's who we are. We are football players.

RESPONSE: This poem is one of my favorite poems because it so descriptive and true! This oem explains deeply how the players work hard to play one sport which is football. They don't play because it is fun, it is because they won't have anything in life but football. It also explains how the players grow into a brotherhood.

Friday Night Lights- Nathan Law
A cold chill across your back, you ought to know what will happen next.
The lights flash on the crowd grows dense, you lace your shoes and get one last stretch.
The tunnel awaits, people stomping their feet, it's time for Victory. It's time for a fight.
You rush onto the field with nothing but Pride. You're about to leave it all. For tonight is Friday Night!
COURTESY OF http://www.voicesnet.org/displayonepoem.aspx?poemid=111307
RESPONSE: I picked this poem because it was very interesting. This poem is talking about before a big game and there is a lot of hype in the stadium. The poem is a description of right before the game where the players are standing in the tunnel anxious to come out.

Football- Ebenezer Kobina Baiden-amissah
A large number had gathered,
Lots more had crowded;
They came with a common view,
And wore a particular hue;
From the beginning of the game,
They looked the same;
But time would tell-
If everything went well,
There should be a winner,
Before we took our dinner:
We were sharing passions,
In front of our televisions
COURTESY OF http://www.voicesnet.org/poetrydisplay.aspx?poemid=123763
RESPONSE: This is simple and short poem. It talks about the gatherings of families just to watch one thing, football. This poem is interesting becasue other poems about football talks about the players on the field, but this poem talks about the family gathering and the happiness watching football bringsin a household.

Gladiator Pride- Nathan Law
I walked into the locker room and sank to the floor.
The final whistle had sounded and all I want is more.
One more pass, one more play is what I long for.
But alas the time has come, for me to walk away once more.
To the coaches I have no regrets I have give my all in every game.
To the alumni I have done my best to hold high our Gladiator name.
Days will come and days will go. But there is one thing I will always know.
We are the might "Ville."
We are the Purple and Gold!
COURTESY OF http://www.voicesnet.org/displayonepoem.aspx?poemid=111306
RESPONSE: I think this poem is about the last game a student-player was playing. I knew this becasue he said he wanted "one more pass... I have my all in ever game" it hints you that it was his last game and he wants more. So I predict that he will continue in the future. This poems tells you that the love of football will last forever.

The Yankees- Robert Lord Keyes
The Yankees are in spring training
down in Florida.
I can feel them everyday
cracking their bats on anvils
with each warmer sunrise.
The Yankees pound quarters
out of the moon.
The Yankees knock birds out of trees
by the millions.
I can listen to them
chewing up the college squads
and minor leaguers
like wolves on a deer.
It is a thing to hear.
The snow
listens so hard it vanishes.
The pastures
clear themselves of everything
but wind.
The ponds collapse,
the ground moves.
The Yankees are heading north.

RESPONSE: The Yankees are my favorite baseball team which is why I chose this poem. This poem talks about the Yankees in spring training. It also talks about how good the Yankees are like where it said : "I can listen to them chewing up the college squads and minor leaguers like wolves on a deer." This poem is also using the figurative language, simile, in that same sentence. Robert Lord Keues was very creative in this poem.

Hockey Poem-Matt Rappolt
I wake up and see the frost biting the edge of my window pane
The tendrils itching to break though through the glass and get inside
It must be minus twenty five degrees
But I am not cold
I feel the adrenalin pumping through my veins
See the equipment carefully laid by the register
It is my armor
And it is time to fight
I arrive at the arena and solemnly get into my gear
I tape my stick and lace my skates, then with my team, step onto the ice
We hear the roar of the crowd
The battle is about to start
The ten armored gladiators face each other in the center of the ice
The official has the thing we all seek, the key to our victory
The crowd is screaming
The official drops the puck
In a flash the battle is on, we push and fight for the puck
I feel myself being slammed into the boards
But my pain is worthless
Compared to the battle we fight
The other team scrapes the puck loose and goes in on the goal
The tension inside me begins to rise
He winds up and the puck
Sails over the goalies blocker
I feel nothing but hate towards our enemy
no mercy or compassion only the urge to smash them to pieces
Now I fight for the puck
And my resilience pays off
I skate though the defense and come in on the goal
I wind up, fake the shot and let the puck go through my legs
My teammate one times it
The goalie never had a chance
Two more periods go by and the game is getting vicious
The enemy is waiting for a break in on goal
And with twelve seconds left
They are away all alone
I scream my frustration and my eyes can barely watch
Yet my eyes are glued to the play
He makes his deke and takes the shot
CLINK off the post!
I can barely contain my happiness
The horn sounds and we are going to over time
Hear the roar of the crowd
As we retreat to our room
After ten short minutes the hero’s return to their battle field
The official skates up and releases the puck
The crowd is screaming
The real battle is on
I fight in the corner and come up with the puck
I pass cross ice and watch my teammate come up to the red line
There is only one man back
It’s a two on one
He passes to me as we cross the blue line
All the season comes down to this game
I fake the defense and
Come in on net
I look into the goalies eyes I see the confidence in them
But also fear, I deke one way the back the other
I pick my spot
And fire the puck
The whole crowd holds their breath

NH Elegy-Richard Harrison
Once, men came home from war,
or from the sides of family graves,
to lace up skates and play for it
as if everything could be remade
in a silver bowl passed hand to hand.
For years it etched the seasons
with their winning names,
and took the touch of triumph
into each triumphant house. It paused
just once – to mourn the dead, and
stayed unmarked to mark their passing.
Today, left idle in the Hall of Fame,
while rich men quarrel to no profit at its base,
untouched upon its plinth it stands.
And all who see it can tell you now
how a fallen thing is one that no one holds.
